Whats up lately?

With the holidays just around the corner things have been crazy. I haven't had time to do much work. And when I have had time to do work I haven't blogged about it. But I am in bed after watching the Dexter finale and getting some more photo work done and thought I would update a little. Where to start:

My friend, Daniel has a band called Gentleman Prefer Blood. I shot his band while they were on tour in January of this year (ohmygoditsalmostbeenayear). It was one of my first times really trying to shoot a live band and I was using flash and film. It was fun and the results were a nice learning experience. GPB are releasing an EP next year and some of my photos might make it onto the album artwork. It's certainly not my best work but I can't say I'm not excited. Even if they don't use the photos, I can't wait for them to put the EP out so they will tour behind it and come around the bay area again!

More recently I shot a few shows two weeks ago and was so excited that I actually developed the negatives at home and scanned everything within a week. Which lead me to print a few of my very first fiber prints. I got to print on graded paper and I love it. Its so much nicer then RC but so so so much more expensive. I am lucky that we have an employee stash of old paper at Looking Glass.

The first show I shot that week was the almighty Baroness. They put out one of the best metal records this year and it has been on constant repeat since I picked it up. The show was incredible and they were a super fun band to shoot. These are the pictures that I printed last week on Fiber Paper.

Then two nights later I got to shoot my good friends Manatee and it was super fun. Good dudes, good beer, and new friends.

I'll try and update more and more as I can. But I will be back in the darkroom more and more too. And I'm trying to scan all that shit. I am going to try and use my scanner more and more as a proofing machine and not a final product machine. The project that I started a year ago is my main project now/again and I have made a commitment to go to at least one show every month next year to photograph bands. I WILL have a show within the next year for these photographs/this project.

Thanks for reading. <3

I'm Up In The Woods

The (soon to be) Missus and I took a trip to Mendocino this weekend for our anniversary. It was a great trip and I got to shoot a lot. I was so excited with just the polaroids that when we got home this evening I scanned a few right away.

This one was especially fun. I shot it with a Polaroid 180 w/ Fuji FP-3000B. The Polaroid 180 doesn't have a cable release and can not take one. This posed a problem as it was cold as hell outside and I certainly was not going to stand out there even for 30 min and hold it open. Cha, at work, jokingly suggested a pencil eraser and rubberband. I went with a pencil eraser and gaffers tape and it worked like a charm! I had some light intrusion from a motion detector light but it was a pretty fun experiment. The exposure on this one was around 40min.

I'm getting the 120 film back on Wednesday but may have the B&W developed and scanned by tomorrow!

I am starting a photoblog

for now.
